RAJKOT/GANDHINAGAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to appoint party nominees to six urban development authorities and other statutory corporations and boards to boost the morale of its cadres.
The move comes in the wake of LK Advani completing the first phase of the Bharat Suraksha Yatra, which passed through 46 Assembly and 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat.

Reliable party sources on Monday said that the Narendra Modi regime had put appointments to these bodies on hold mainly because of the elections to civic bodies and panchayats last year.
There are 1,000 vacancies in government corporations, boards and various committees, leaving a lot of scope for the party to hand out largesse to its members.
BJP national general secretary Om Mathur, who is also the central observer for organisational affairs, has reportedly discussed the issue which has been hanging fire for a couple of years, with the Gujarat BJP leaders and is likely to take up the matter with the Central leaders in Delhi this week.
Sources close to Mathur have also confirmed that the party has already discussed some names of party leaders who are likely to head urban development authorities of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar in coming days.

Mathur, who has been camping in the state in connection with the preparations for Advani's yatra, has discussed several names with state unit president Vajubhai Vala and other leaders for the next organisational exercise.
It is believed that the organisational machinery was fully geared up for the yatra and the party leaders have made close assessment of the cadres during this major exercise and on the basis of their performances, they would be assigned the positions in the boards and corporations.
When contacted, Mathur admitted to the proposed plan to first appoint chairmen to urban development authorities and told TOI, " We would make some appointments by the end of this month."
It is learnt that Mathur has left for Delhi and on his return to Gandhinagar by next week, he would take up the matter with Vala and chief minister Narendra Modi and the final decision would be taken thereafter.
The Modi government has so far appointed chairman of the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TCGL) but as Vijay Rupani has been elected to Rajya Sabha, the post is lying vacant.
Former Ahmedabad mayor Bhavnaben Dave has been appointed as head of the state social welfare board and Shobhna Patel from Vadodara as deputy chairperson of the Mahila Suraksha Samiti.
